Toyota Box With Ididit Column

Going to be installing a Toyota box in the 54 soon along with a Ididit tilt colmn. My question is what length column drop did you use for the application. Ididit recommends a 4.5 - 5.5 inch drop but that is just a guess not knowing what position one has installed their box.

Seems I read here on FTE that someone use a 4" drop with the Toyota / Ididit column.

A column drop is more about personal preference rather than right or wrong. Different seats and ones body shape/size will better determine the comfort level of the steering wheel. Mock up your parts and see what feels right for you.

I don't think there is a lot of room to play with. The Toyota box is suppose to align with the factory column so I'm thinking to factory drop would be what is needed. I am going with a Ididit tilt column so I'll need a drop for a 2" tube. I'm trying to get everything together so I can make this a one day swap rather than having the shop tied up for weeks.

Axracing if you see this please chime in, I saw where you went with this same set up on your 56 and from reading your post it sounds like we are both about the same size.

Thanks Dave

A U-joint at the box and column connection will allow you to place the column at any height you want inside.

Yes I understand that, I'm after as much room as possible. I'm 6'3" 265lbs with a gut. figure the closer I can keep everything to the dash the more room for the driver.

I'd have to measure mine, but as said it is dependent on steering wheel diameter, tilt angle, seat height, body size, and shoe size (well SS really doesn't affect it much ) I used a billet drop, so if I ever want to change it I can get another length that bolts in it's place.

I'm going to be using a 15" reproduction 1940 Ford Deluxe wheel and plan on lowering the original seat an inch or so.

When you get the column drop measurement can you measure the seating height of your seat.

Thanks Dave

Dave,
I finally got out to the shop and remembered to measure everything. I am using a 3 1/2" drop from the bottom of the dash to the column centerline. My seat cushion is about 12" at the highest point from the floor when in the fully lowered position. I am using a 15" steering wheel with Ididit adapter.

Thanks AX, those measurements will give me something to compare with. My new front super slider springs will be here Monday and things will start coming apart. Complete front disc brake kit, Toyota PS kit are also going under the 54.

Don't forget to change the tie rod to the HD version with the PS.
