Getting ready to yank the engine on my OBS 7.3. I've done this 2x on my newer 7.3's, but some things are different on this. While it's out, I plan on doing exhaust manifolds, up pipes, all o rings up top, like injectors, fuel bowl etc. I will definitely be checking my oil pan too. Are there any other mods I should consider while it's out? I'm trying to figure out this e fuel deal and if there's something I should do now. I don't want to dump a ton of cash into this thing as it's pretty rusty and a backup work truck, but at the same time, I need it to start every time I turn the key, without bubble gum and duct tape.
I would check out the oil pick up tube in the pan as well. It's rare for them to go bad, but sometimes a weld can break or an oring, and it will suck air into the lines causing injectors to miss. Motor has to be pulled to fix. So since it'll be out, may as well put eyes in it.
Ok guys, change of plans. I picked up a 97 f 350 SRW with a tired engine and blown tranny for $400 today. That's what I planned in spending in body parts for the truck I'm going to go through, a 95 f350 mason dump, DRW. The body on the SRW is in great shape, whereas the DRW was a plow truck and VERY rusty. So now, I'm going to pull the engine, trans, and plow and put it into the SRW. I plan on yanking the bed off that truck and putting a flatbed on it, using the hydraulics and pump off the DRW. I'll then have an extra block with 340k on it, and any extra parts I yank like the IDM, harness, steering box, etc. If I get ambitious, I may swap out the rear end too. I know I'll end up with another great truck, but man, somehow I keep working myself into these projects!
Just so you know, the cab-n-chassis rear axle will Not bolt into the pickup
Thank you for that! Just another reason I love FTE. One little tidbit of knowledge shared just saved me hrs of work! I would have never guessed. Could you tell me what the difference between a DRW pickup axle and a DRW cab and chassis axle is? The trannys should be interchangeable, correct?
Yes as long as there both 4x4 or 2wd. A cab and chassis the frame narrow right behind the cab. I can't remember the inches it small but noticeably narrower. Also srw and drw have different axles. A drw is a little wider so the inner tires don't hit the springs.
