ScanGauge II

I'm thinking about getting a ScanGauge 2 for my 2006 Super Duty F250 (6.0). Is there anything I have to buy in addition to the ScanGauge, or is the truck prewired with all sensors needed to monitor the 6.0 common issues? And is it somewhat self-explanatory, or does one need an engineering degree to use it?

I posted this earlier in the Super Duty forum...then realized I might get more help here!

You don't need anything unless you want to get a mount of some kind. All you need to do is plug it into the OBDII port.

Here's a list of SGII PID's that we've compiled that are useful on your 6.0. The only things the SGII won't monitor are engine lubricating oil pressure, exhaust gas temperature, and fuel pressure. The SGII comes with engine coolant temperature preloaded as fWt (water temp in farenheit).

If plugs right in to the computer port, called odb2, nothing else required. I bought the optional blendmount (just google it) to mount it to the rear view mirror, it comes with extension cable too.

The computer does not monitor, and thus not readable by any device via odb port:
Exhaust gas temp
Low pressure oil pressure
Fuel pressure

Great investment to being able to keep an eye on your engine

If you read the manual you'll find it's fairly easy to plug in the X gauges just be careful and take your time or you'll have to go back and edit if they don't read properly.

Entering the xcodes is pretty simple, once you get over the "what do i do now" hurdle, its simple '80s era tech to enter the special 6.0 xcodes, only two or three buttons to push so just push them to learn..

So does it come with a mount at all? How was it originally intended to be mounted?

(And thanks for the replies!)

Also...@ npccpartsman....concerning the "PIDs" you listed....are they something I have to program into it? Or are they existing "monitors" already programmed in?

The PIDS will have to be programmed in but it is very easy. It is basically tapping buttons. The only mount that it comes with is velcro, which is fine, but I would recommend buying more than what comes in the kit. The other mounts that you can buy, usually on amazon just look alot nicer, especially the Blendmount that has been mentioned here.

How heavy is the unit? I prefer under-dash mounting to mirror mounting. I thought about ordering the ScanGauge, then fabbing a mount once I see what I'm dealing with.

Very light. Like I said, just buy more velcro and you should be fine with mounting under dash. That is the way I did it. I wanted to be able to see it but for it to be out of the way.

Got my Scan Gauge in Tuesday (as in arrived, not INstalled). How do you measure the EOT/ECT delta? I see a code for EOT, but not for the ECT. Is there a code for the delta, or do you have to find a code for ECT and do the math?

ECT will be a pretty programmed PID and is labeled fWT.

You must do the math.

Coolant Temperature is already in the SGII. It is name fWT. That stands for Farenheit Water Temperature. Just compare the EOT and the Water Temperature and the Oil should not get more than 15* warmer than the water. If it gets any warmer then it is a sign of Oil Cooler getting plugged up on the water side. You can test this on a flat road where you can sustain a steady 65-70 mph for about 15 min unloaded. By this time the temperatures stabilize and you can get a true reading of the difference.
