Tailgate Latch Mechanism

I have an 89 Bronco and whenever I go to close the tailgate, only one side of the gate will close - I've took the access panel off and fiddled with the rods but i cannot get the left side to latch properly. Is there any way to pull the latches out, or an easier way to get at them?

Get a T-50 bit and loosen the L strike bolt (on the body) VERY slightly - just enough that you can slide it STRAIGHT back ~1/16". Use a felt-tip marker to draw a circle around it before you start so you'll know how much you've moved it.

Where exactly do I find the L Bolt? Where is it on the body? I have the T-50 bit and I'm kinda stuck.......

L is "LEFT". It's the round strike bolt that the latch grabs onto. Open the t/g and look in the jamb. You should immediately spot the one on each side with a T-50 head.
