does anybody know will the gauge cluster with tach out of an 86 f150 with 300 4spd 4x4 work in a 86 f250 with 460 c6 4x4
Yes.
You will need to swap the shift indicator, but that's simple. Manual trans clusters have a blank plate that fits in the same screw holes as the auto trans gear indicator.
The tach should actually work correctly, since it's the same unit for both I6 and V8 engines. There is an extra wire used for V8's, and it's made into the engine harness.
Should be totally plug and play.
I put an 85 tach/trip cluster from a V8 truck into my 80 I6 truck. That wasn't quite plug and play, as the 80 dash is wired differently from 81-86.
Gauges = fuel, oil pressure, water temperature, battery charge.
Idiot lights = red lights for the battery charge (alternator) and, um, I think maybe the water temp, I forget. The other two are gauges, not idiot lights.
THOSE are the gauges I'm referring to, the presence or absence of a tachometer is irrelevant.
so being my f250 don't have a factory tach in it the f150 does moving the gauge cluster over will not work
If you have oil pressure and Amp guages in the current cluster, and the replacement, then it will work. oil/alt lights in 1, will derail the process though. I don't think a tach was offered with the oil/alt lights.
