Additional Gauges

I am installing a transmission temperature gauge and was thinking of installing a coolant temperature gauge as the stock gauge does not really tell me anything. i would like to keep stock gauge functional and install the second on a pillar. Can I run the wire from the stock sender to both gauges? if not how would I plumb the two senders? thanks

No, you can't run both gauges off the same sensor, but you can easily add another temp gauge without touching the factory one. Remove the square plug on the rear of the driver's side head for the aftermarket gauge's sensor:

Use a 9/16" 8-Point socket.

Of course, now that I showed that to you, you won't do it.

Using that position wont give you a true temp reading, it will read low. You can remove the over temperature switch in the front hole shown, the gauge will still function and you can have your add on gauge.

OK the sender at the far left of the photo is the overheat sender or the dash temperature gauge sender? If its overheat sensor is it only to trigger an idiot light if so I would light to install my temperature sender from here as it will be more accurate.

What would you expect the difference in temperature be from the back of the head location to the front of the head?

OK than no need to make my life difficult, second temp sender goes in the spot as you recommended in rear of engine.

Sometimes.

Seriously though, if any of the ports were out of the way of the circulating coolant there possibly could be a difference in temperature reading, but all the access ports in the heads are in major arteries of the cooling system and coolant circulates fast, it's not going to be able to lose any significant degree of heat from one part of the head to the other.

It's no farther away from the front three than the front sensor is away from the back three.
