I'm moving this from the off topic thread, thought I'd put it in there, but now figure I'll just start a thread.
Ever heard of a gpr working parttime? Mine is fairly new, but I kind of messed up when I originally put it on. It was done along with many other things last winter. I forgot to tighten the nuts, and tried to activate it many times. I'm wondering if I didn't mess up the contacts in there somehow. Sometimes it works, this afternoon it didn't. I went to leave a jobsite, left the key on for 20-30 seconds after the wts light went out, cranked and nothing. Did this 3 times to no avail. Got out and put a screwdriver across the big posts for 20 seconds, cranked for a real short time and fired right up.
I haven't tested it yet, I will though. This morning it worked fine. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this. I could have started a thread, but enough of you look on this thread.

It is possible for it to work part of thd time. The coil pushes a round disc up against the contacts on the bottom of the two big posts. If it turns a little and gets on aburnt spot then could quit working. A loose connection could have burnt the contacts some. Id probably go ahead and replace it.

^^^ X2 ^^^ Picture of my burnt GPR disk that I was having trouble working all the time ...
Mine was doing this when I bought the truck. Sometimes it would work, sometimes not. I got one off one of the parts trucks and replaced it, then took it apart to see what it looked like inside. It was neat just to see, since I had never seen the inside of a solenoid. I eventually replaced the one from the parts truck with one of the "Western Plow" relays. I've been very pleased so far, and while I can't attest to the longevity of this particular relay, it seems to work well for now. I also have one of the Western Plow relays on my dump trailer, and it has also held up really well through longer direct voltage periods to raise and lower the trailer.
I got a couple flakey Napa relays that were intermittent / buzzed. Picked up another that was supposed to be a Delphi. Works a bunch better. The Western Plow or the Stancor would be the way to go IMHO. But you know this already!
I figured my mess up on forgetting to tighten the studs probably caused this. Oops. I understand how they can be intermittent now. It didn't work again this morning, I didn't even give it a try this afternoon, just jumped it for 20 seconds and fired it up. I guess I'll just order up a western plow relay.

Thanks guys.
If you remember from about a year or so ago, I decided to give the GPR that we were talking about on ebay that Madvan had linked to a long time ago. That relay is intermittent now also. For some reason it seems to not work at all at temps below about 45*. lol

That's the one I'm running too. I think my forgetting to tighten studs probably had something to do with it, but nice to know yours is doing the same basic thing. Maybe they are a pos? I ordered a western plow one a bit ago.
I replaced mine at the end of last winter with a napa peice. Worked fine until about a week ago and started to work intermittently like you said. If i tapped on it or wiggled the wires it would usually work. Then this morning i tried to tighten one of the posts and with barely any pressure at all the stud twisted out. The plastic body was cracked so i think the stud was loose and not always making contact with the disk.
Hi new to this site but gotta say this is a very frustrating site to navigate to the point were I will probably drop use I Don't have all day to navigate..gotta go.free shouldn't mean difficult.

I have no idea why you think this site is hard to navigate. If all you are going to do is complain about it you don't have to come on here anyway.
On a good note, my western snow plow gpr showed up today.
I just bought it & I've hallways liked these trucks..it idles @ 5/600 rpm? Is that normal?has automatic 7.3psd. W/250 k..miles.no smoke out of exhaust, seems to run fine at hwy speed but does sound like it is missing?
