Drive like an old lady and you might see ~10 city ~12-13 hwy. Attach a heavy spring to the bottom of your steering column and to the top of your driving foot... it'll make giving it gas harder and might save you a couple bucks...

These engines have been out for 14+ years... if someone had found a solution to improving V10 mileage substantially you would know about it

With that said, the only thing thats going to change your gas mileage are your right foot and maintenance

So there's no improvement with a tuner or any other mods? Just what I wanted to hear. Lol. Thanks.

I`ve got a 5 star tuner mostly for the towing tune (just got it in April) . I did get approx. .8 mpg more towing. when I got the X it had 3.73`s and I could eek out 15 hwy and 12.5 mixed city hwy. now with the 4.30`s and the tuner I get around 14.3 hwy. can`t say on the mixed mileage as I now work 1.5 miles from home. I can tell you my towing mileage went from 6 to almost 7mpg.

And yes the biggest factor for mileage is driving it like an old lady! my 12.5 mixed mileage was driving as if there was an egg under the pedal.

Mpg and v10 shouldn't be in the same sentence

Disappointing...I knew it was a guzzler before I bought it but I was really hoping to get more than the 9-11 mpg I'm getting now. 90% of travel is city. Grocery store, kids to school and errands. But really bought to be able to haul all the family in one veh. And pull the TT. Thought with some mods I'd be able to squeeze another couple mpg out of it. Guess I should have found this forum sooner. My bad!

it is what it is man. 7-8,000 lbs depending on motor and axles...deep gearing...etc.

I was getting 12.5 MPG in my 2008 Expy EL with 5.4 3v motor...equivalent HP (ish). I get 9 MPG in the X currently. I should preface that with the fact that I'm running 35" tires with 4.30 gears...so to me 9 MPG is actually pretty decent. I lost 0.5 to 1 MPG going from stock 32's to the 35's

My wifes new Escalade is getting 12.5 - 14 mpg for reference with it's 6L motor

you have to pay to play, or so the phrase seems to be. I'd love to get some better MPG's, but then I'd have to get a significantly smaller vehicle. even then I wouldn't see a whole ton better. we just got rid of our 2012 Flex and it was getting around 15 mpg city...highway was an awesome 26-27 mpg though. Great car, but kinda small and zero towing capability

Let me be a little more clear as to my needs... 6 kids, two adults. Tow a TT and daily driving. Maybe I need to examine some other vehicles? At $3-4 a gallon it's killing my vacation funds before I even get to where I'm going lol!

Its gonna be a pay now or pay later situation. The 6.0 will very likely get better fuel mileage, but theres a good chance that you'll have to dump some cashola into it to "bulletproof" it, and then you'll tune it and you wont be able to keep your foot out of it and you'll be back in the same boat.

Im more of a 7.3 guy myself, so hopefully the 6.0 guys will chime in on this part. From my understanding, the 6.0 aint gonna like just puttin around town, it would be much happier getting out on the highway and stretchin its legs. As much as it pains me to say it, I think you might be better off stickin with the v10 for your situation.

Not too many vehicles meet those needs. Look at the bright side, you're in good company here

Best I've ever got is 15, hand calculated going downhill the entire time. LOL For me, I have a family of four, plus kids friends, plus two dogs and on occasion pull a 10k lb boat. There's just simply nothing else out there that's going to have that kind of ability.

The added bonus for me is that it's a Ford, and everything is pretty much swappable from any Superduty with little/no issue. And I'll take a Superduty over any Government Motors/Fiat product.
