I remember when that red and black flareside was for sale. That guy actually just lives a few miles down the road from me. I did see it again on Craigslist in Highland IL. It was sitting in the back ground of a picture for a ad of a 4wheeler for sale. Still looked the same.
I have a 78 4x4 flare that is a rusted out mess right now... actually the bed is in pieces on my garage floor and prolly to far gone to rebuild. It might make a good template for a new bed though.
hey 1Asterick....I see you ran the exhaust out under the step.
Did you run duals?
Any issues with exhaust on the rear fender?
Is it load in the cab?
I purchased this rig a couple months ago as a DD/next project while I complete another stepside project. One of the previous owners installed the dual exhaust system as shown in the photos. There is some rust issues on the left fender where it meets the step (not unusual) which could be attributed, at least in part, to the exhaust, but the right fender at the step looks good in this area.
Only my wife thinks it is loud. I think it has a nice 'rumble'.
Here's my '79 F150 4x4, 300ci I6, 4spd Manual.
It doesn't show from the picture, but it's a rust bucket. Not a single panel doesn't need attention. But it's mine and it drives!!
Love the flares.
My next one will be a 4wd . For now I am looking forward to driving mine . I believe I am going to take it to the supernats in Gatlinburg this year .
Do I ever love your truck! Very nice! I can't remember the last time I've seen a box like that.
Thanks! It means a lot. I feel about 50 years older than I am (19) when I drive it, but I love cruising around in it. I've seen one other eight foot flareside in person, and one other on here, they're an odd one for sure.
They are very less common than short beds, but the general population hasn't thrown the word 'rare' out there yet . From my understanding the majority of the long beds were made for fleet vehicles, or so I've heard. I should get a Marti report one day to see just how many were made.
There's a long bed flareside for sale about an hour away from me...if I has $2200 and a parking place for it I'd already own it. Think its got a 302 or 351 in it. Fairly rust free and well cared for from the pics in craigslist.
