toploader transfer case

I currently have a '76 mustang on an bronco chassis running 35's. Had a bit of a catastraufic failure with the stock spicer 20 t-case and the dana 44 from end. My question is how easy is it to bolt a NP205 to the old toploader 3spd. If it was a rockcrusher 4spd there would be no questions but this has got me baffled. I have had our 4x4 shop tell me that i have to swap out the trans, yet I had a couple of wheeling buddies tell me that I should be able to buy an adaptor. I don't want to get rid of the 3spd because it works very well in the mud mated to the 4.10:1 final ratio.

There is no adaptor available, factory or aftermarket to mate the 3 speed to a 205. The Bronco 3 speed has a 28 spline output shaft. And the 205 (and most 4wd married transmissions) have 31 splines.

Your best bet to keep the 3 speed is to find another Dana 20 to bolt in. They are very strong units and can take a lot of abuse.
