So a few weeks ago my 05 Escape wouldn't start. Pulled up to work fine, cut it off, 7 hours later it wouldn't start.
So far, this is all I've done
-Checked fuses and relay's and replaced
-Changed battery
-Fuel reset switch
-Checked the fuel pump
-Popped the clutch, nothing
And a few other little things. The belts turn, it turns over, but won't start... When you crank it, it almost sounds like a fan is turning (it's not a fan making the noise, just the only way I know to describe it) with a faint "tick". To my knowledge I've done just about everything possible within reasonable maintenance, and unless anybody has any possible ideas/sources of the problem/troubleshooting, I plan on hauling it in to Ford so I can get reamed by their mechanics pricing. (Kidding, but seriously)
How did you check the fuel pump? Did you check the pressure or check the fuel delivery at the check point under the hood. It sounds fuel related to me.
I am not sure that you have a timing belt, as one 4 cylinder has a chain, one has a belt, and I have not memorized who's on first...
The symptoms are similar to what happens when a timing belt loses a few teeth. And that generally happens when the engine is started.
If you have not changed your belt, check to see if it is recommended in the owners manual. If you have a timing chain for the cams, then I'd be checking fuel pressure, followed by checking that you are getting spark.

I changed all the spark plugs, forgot to mention that. And we checked the fuel from under the seat, just checking fuel delivery, not necessarily pressure.
And the 05 has a timing chain. At this point I'm tired of standing out in the cold and it's almost worth it just to pay the Ford mechanics.
Well, unless your timing slipped, and you've lost all compression, you can test two things with one squirt of combustible into the intake. Open the throttle, squirt something flammable in there, WD40 used to work, but I've been told they've changed the composition. Crank it over. If you used some fuel in a squirt gun/bottle, and it lacked fuel, it will pop and turn over using the fuel in the intake.
If nothing happens, look for ignition problems.
