Always got winter mats because older car floors used to rust and most people around me get them.
If I don't:
Will the floor rust within 10 years? After that the outside will be rusted anyway
I don't care about dirty carpets; is this the only reason?
Not sure how much they help but my 04 is pretty rusty under the drivers side area where you put your feet and that's it. The passenger side i starting but my dad use to plow with my truck so that explains they the drivers side is rusty.
when i bought my truck i installed CatchAll front floor mats. I remove the plastic cover on the bottom of the carpet all the time to vacuum up and my floor under the carpet looks like its brand new no rust anywhere. But my rubber/carpet CatchAll mats well catch and hold everything
If you get in and out many times a day with sloppy boots in snow country, then absolutely.
You should get competent mats that will hold a lot of water - some winter mats just direct the water to the edge of the mat. Pull your carpet up after a few years and check for rust, too.
I like the rubber mats just to protect the carpeting from wear and tear even, regardless of wet snowy boots or not. My car only has 132k km's on it, 2002 and the floor mat is warn out from feet resting on it.
Thats why I went with an XL truck, nothing to worry about! In my Excursion in the winter months I just used to use an old towel on top of the factory mats, cheap and easy to clean.
I bought a few retired cop cars and the carpeted cars almost had no floor left on the drivers side, the rubber floor cars had almost no rust issues.

Even with a rubber floor you will get water that runs between the sill plate and the rubber floor.
Weather Tech liners will get the water and crap out of the truck.
Besides, it is a heck of a lot easier to pull the liner out of the truck and pressure wash it than it is to clean the floor of the truck from mud, salt and snow.
I personally dont see why not to buy them. I didnt even drive my truck until my husky liners came in. My old truck i had the husky liners from day 1/35k miles as well. 2.5 or so years later and at 71k, the guy who bought my truck could not believe how clean the carpet was. Absolutely perfect, and i live in CT and frequently get in with mud/snow/sand/whatever. Current trucks carpet is perfect as well
All good points. UI have an XL truck with the vinyl floor from the factory. Is there one floor mat that would be better than the others and not slide all over the factory floor ?
I want to protect the factory vinyl - like someone said - it is much easier to take a mat out and clean it. My question is which is the best mat for on top of a vinyl factory floor ?

X2. I got an xl because I hate carpet in a vehicle, but I still use good mats in mine too. Rubber floor or not, it is easier to take the mats out and hose them off.

I agree. Carpet has no place on the floor of a truck, but a person still needs floor mats to keep the debris contained. There is nothing worse than getting into a person's vehicle where the floor is a filthy mess of dried caked on dirt.

I got mine at wal mart and have been very pleased with them. I got them 10 years ago, so they have probably changed brands/designs since then. Go for something that is a softer rubber without the carpet grippers on the bottom. Make sure it has raised edges and deep grooves in it too. It will keep the junk out of your floor and off the soles of your shoes.
