Does anyone have the procedures on how to properly rig the IP pump? I see it has an Idle set screw and a Hi-speed set screw. My problem is that the Idle-up solenoid doesn't reach the throttle arm (yes, the solenoid works). The truck runs an idles perfectly fine at 650-700 rpm. I'm concerned the throttle mis-adjustment might be affecting my TPS since the most I can get is 3.8V. Can I screw-out the idle screw to get the Idle-up solenoid to reach without lowering my idle? Ideas?
Dave
but the high idle rod will screw out with a small socket. the high idle will not affect the tps, as for only getting 3.8v idr the what the spec is but if you are not getting enough theres some other issue, probably a bad tps.
Well, I tried adjusting the Idle-up solenoid by turning the plunger and it almost fell out before it made contact. Definitely seems like the previous owner had to adjust the idle-set screw to get it to idle properly. And the TPS sensor is new and adjusted to 1.201v at idle. Any ideas?
I have a suspicion that the previous owner changed out the IP pump and didnt bother to time it. I believe the IP timing is retarded which would lower the idle, hence the reason my Idle-set screw is cranked up so high to compensate. I'm going to have the timing checked tomorrow.
i doubt thats the issue, with retarded timing it would barely idle but should still idle fine, unless your pump is side ways, i aint seen one there yet, but a buddy had a former state truck and the ip was replaced on it so retarded it was on a 45 angle and it idled fine before and after i advanced it
