Any of you with the Manual Shift On Stop 4x4 system (manual t-case and manual hubs)? It says you should shift into 4x4 from a stop. I've engaged it at 30mph with seemingly no problems. Wondering if I'm playing russian roulette or this is completely ok to do?
as long as the hubs are locked in I really don't see why it would hurt anything since the front end is already spinning and internal wise I don't see why it would make a difference to the transfer case if it engages on the move via a lever or electric motor. I shift on the fly all the time with my lever operated case and it goes in smooth.
My 99' super duty 4x4 has manual everything and I shift in and out of 4HI while in motion with no ill effects. Sometimes you need to kick it in and of 4WD so you can rear steer the truck in the direction you want, especially if you're coming downhill around a corner in the snow or mud.
Obviously you shouldn't try to pull it into 4HI while your rear tires are spinning faster than your front ones. If you try it will just grind. Shifting to 4LO requires you to come to a complete stop but I'm sure you already knew that.
I'm pretty sure the only reason the manufacturer recommends you come to a stop is because there will be some idiot who will have their foot to the floor spinning the back tires and try to pull it into 4WD and when the t-case ends up with a bunch of metal fragments in the bottom of it they will try and blame someone else for their stupidity

For sure. I've done it probably 100 times since I've owned the truck. Was just curious.
Like tenth gen said Ford states that because some idiot was/will be stuck holding the pedal to the floor and then either turn the dash **** or pull the level to 4wd and POW blown tcase front driveshaft or axle. As long as both front and rear tires and at the same speed and moving is spinning it's perfectly fine. I have warn premium front hubs but the stock dash 4wd switch and I turn it to 4wd all summer/spring/fall/etc just so my tcase motor and other parts are constantly moving in and out and moving oil so when I really need to use 4wd I know it will work
