Super happy with the rebuild. As the pictures from my initial post show, I put on a Clifford intake, and exhaust with a Holley 1850-3-S. not sure on gas mileage as I'm still braking it in. But can for sure feel a lot more power. Like I said super happy with it.
Next thing is a recurve???? Should I get a jy special and put a brass gear on an do the recurve to that one? My buddy says my dist is good. I'm kinda vague on the recurve. Not because of lack on how to. As there are a couple great write ups on it. Not sure on what would be better even if I dialed it in. Should I consider the wide band? Would that help or is that only carb?
But that's my update. I'm stoked.
Went to oddfordjunky's and put a flow master on as well. And guess what?!?!? I really happy with that too.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a glass half full kinda guy.
But if I could love my truck more,,,,, it would be weird. Even by my standards.
Once you change the intake, carb, and exhaust a recurve may be in order. The only way to know for sure is to try it. The stock advance curve is very conservative.
So my dist is from a '78 my reman long block is a '66. I'm trying to get to the remanufacturing company to see what they did on my rebuilt block to at a minimum know what I actually have. Their paper work talks a big game, but no facts and figures. It sounds very lopy ( I make words up when I'm at a loss) and seems really responsive to narrow pedal articulation. But is it bored over, more than stock cam? Whatever else they can tell me would be nice.
It sounds like an angry tractor. And I'm totally diggin it. I live in Seattle and love pissing off yuppies and Prius owners and go cars. Oh and liberals. Haha
I had a reman 300 in a 70 f250 and underneath the oil pressure sending unit there was a tag that said somewhere, NJ, .040 over, crank .010/.010.....probably doesn't help you any as I'm sure you would've noticed it painting and such.
Glad you're happy with the muffler and the little bit of tuning. We can do more tuning but I purposely left yours on the safe side with a little too rich and conservative timing because you're still in the break in period.
After you get done breaking it in we will start tuning for performance.
Still gotta try to find you an ignition setup so I can blow your plug gap wide open. Try and get your pennies together for the swap meet.
