I have the Max Tow package with the Super Duty tow mirrors (comes with the Lariat trucks), and the power extend doesn't work. My son at the dealer service department found the switch to have power. When he ran a power source to the driver's side mirror, it still didn't extend. After going through the procedures, it was determined that I needed new mirrors. I'm being told that some of these mirrors are failing on some trucks (mostly on the Super Duties). I'm waiting for the new ones to come in so the dealer can replace them. I'm curious to know if anyone else has had this problem with their Powerfold Tow Mirrors?
This is good information. I was just telling my wife, that I wondered how many times the mirrors could be folded or extended before they failed. (I purposely only use the extend/ fold when I want to show off the feature to friends ) Lol
But I've always had the feeling that there is likely a "cheap" plastic gear set inside one of these mirrors, just waiting to strip or break.
Bought my wife a new Mercedes C300 back in 2008, it too had the folding mirror feature, but was set to "auto" so that everytime the car turned on/ off the mirrors would auto fold. Of course they failed after about 18-20K miles. Once fixed under warranty, I told my wife to set them to "manual" so that we would never have to worry about it again.

The chance of the power extend in BOTH mirrors failing at the same time is about 1 in 1 trillion. If neither work, and both quit at the same time it's something else.
Ford is replacing both, even though the driver's side was the only one tested. I'm pretty sure both motors didn't fail, but who am I to argue about getting a new pair of mirrors. Ford is telling me that the power extend feature has been failing with these mirrors. They are fine otherwise.
