Great success. It runs!!! and idles much much much smoother than before. The only problem is that I need to find a different source of 12v to energize the relay because with the key on, the ignition post on the relay has 12v, but when cranking, it drops too low to keep the relay latched. I think that is backwards to how it is supposes to work but whatever. I will find a different 12v source or go back to the toggle switch idea.

I am super happy with how it turned out and the tach responds correctly now too as well.

I found a switched 12v wire to trigger the relay, so the key works properly now! Winning! It is unbelievable how much better it idles now.

I think chances would be low, but I wonder if there is any chance that there could be an arc across the open female spade connectors if moisture was present.
Probably my paranoia.

Nice pics.

Idk. Never consider it. Wouldn't be a big deal to snag a TFI coil connector at the junkyard though.

Well that was short lived. Drove it to work and home today. When I got home it was idling in the driveway and died. At first I thought it ran out of gas, but that was not it. Checked and it does not seem to have spark. Phooey!

Oh well, I'll figure it out. Haha

I think it may be a fried module from insufficient grounding. I chose not to run a ground wire from the distributor to one of the module bolts because I thought it would be grounded well enough through the plate. Maybe not! I will do some more troubleshooting at lunch today.

Module was toast. Did not pass any of the tests at the store. Got a new one and started modifying a CPU heat sink to work with the module. I don't think heat was the problem, and I will still use the plate to mount everything. But the module will now have a heat sink and the grounds will be routed properly.

Version 2.0!

I took an old CPU heat sink and modified it to work with the module. I had the MSD Street Fire TFI coil just sitting around so I decided to throw it on there too.

Killgore - the best thing I did the other day was to bungee cord the step stool to the bumper so it could not slide away when I leaned in. lol I was considering using a 'mission impossible' style harness and cable hung from the house to suspend myself over the engine bay.

This made me LMAO................reminded me of the time I was painting a pickup at one of my jobs. I was spraying the last coat of clear.........standing on a plastic milk crate to reach the center of the hood.........leaned out a bit too far and the damn crate slid out from under me...........perfect full body print on the hood!! Good thing it was just a beater construction company truck and not something anyone really gave a **** about.
