99 Supear duty cold start problem

I have a 99 F250SD with 5.4l. I live in Maine so it gets really cold in the winter. I've had the truck for almost 8 years now and about 90% of all work done it is by me. Towards the end of last winter the fuel pump sometimes wouldn't turn on when i went to start the truck. I figured that it needed a new fuel pump. I managed to get through the winter figuring I would change it when summer came. Although I never did change it due to the fact that all summer it started fine no problems what so ever. Now that it is winter again the problem is back, Although I am not convinced that it is the fuel pump. All I have to do is cycle the key a half dozen times on cold days and she starts right up and runs fine. I swapped out the relay and checked the fuses still no difference. Didn't know if there was anything else to check or if it is the fuel pump and it just doesn't like the cold.

Have you checked the fuel pressure?

Sure sounds like the pump doesn't it. Listen next time for the pump running on the first key on and next etc....Maybe its not coming on the first time.

That's why i have to click the key over a few times because the pump doesn't come on the first time. So i stand outside so i can wait to hear the pump prime before i start it.

Try a little 2 stroke oil in the gas. It will lube the pump. Or try a little diesel fuel. Something to lube it..Or better yet replace it..
