Driver's Side Air Bag

Help! I'm a Massachusetts trained driver and my horn doesn't work!

I've had 2 seperate dealerships diagnose the problem and both said that I needed a $700+ Air Bag assembly replaced to fix the problem. I found and purchased the air bag assy. at a bone yard for 1/2 the cost.

How do I go about replacing the module so that it doesn't go off during instalation. There's only 2 attachment points and 2 connectors on the back of the assembly. Dis-connect the battery, replace the unit and wait 2 minutes before attempting to start the truck has been the only advise I gotten so far.

Regards, Steve

I'm not to sure on your model, but some I've worked on the 2 minutes you talk about is the opposite. disconnect the battery
wait 2 min MINIMUM than start on the system. the sirbag model
holds a charge for a couple of minutes after. Incase of an accident in which the battery source is cut off, there is still enough power to deploy bag. be sure not to turn steering wheel also when you have the airbag out or else if you have the coil
in the wheel type, you will damage it. usually airbag wires marked and color is bright yellow. USUALLY. hope this helps.

The airbag system stores NO power, and the clock spring isn't dependent on the airbag for alignment. It won't hurt to turn the steering wheel with it out. The moment you unplug the airbag, it goes safe - there's a shorting clip inside the connector.

If your horn button is NOT on your airbag, you didn't need to replace it. It should be on the steering wheel, and the wheel or the clock spring is the problem. I'd recommend diagnosing it yourself. The horn is a simple system, but shares the clock spring with the airbag & cruise control.
