Borderbum's Diesel "Bandit"
#272
Here ya' go, Jeff. Batteries bolted down and the cables wired in.
Here's the passenger side. I had to make a little bracket to mount the cable junction. I tried it and the dash lights come on with the light switch, and the solenoid clicks when I hit the starter. I still have to wire in the cable from the junction to the starter, but then it should crank.
Don't get excited, I still have lots to do before I try to start it. ...but it's getting closer.

Here's what I got done today.....
The throttle cable and brackets are made and installed.
The starter cables are installed.
The shifter for the transfer case is installed. (I still need the linkage rod)
The trans cooler lines and trans cooler are installed.
The dipstick tube is installed. (Trans has fluid in it.)
The heater hoses are installed.
I tried to start it by jumping the injector pump, but no dice. I got it to sputter a couple times on either, but I didn't want to use much of that. I tried to start it until I was dumping fuel out of the broken return line on the selector valve, so I just quit. The glow plugs seem to be working too. I'll wire those up tomorrow. .....I guess I need to buy another relay for that. Other than that, it's just about ready to go. Hopefully, tomorrow I'll be breathing diesel fumes.

We're rounding 3rd and heading for home on this one. Bandit now has a column shifted four speed automatic transmission and dual fuel tanks with functional fuel gauges.
What's left to do...
Install rear steel brake line.
Fix a minor fuel leak.
Swap steering wheels.
Add a couple leaves to the front spring packs.
I hope to have pictures and all of this done today. (YAY ME!)

Here's some stills, too.
The interior with column shifter. (Jeff. Your column didn't work, so I used my column and your steering wheel)
I rehung the fender so it doesn't hit the door and tightened it up. It's all good on this side. I still need to hang the rest of the front clip. (So bring me the hood, Jeff)
Blurry, but this is the t-case shift linkage.
Here's the new shift linkage I made for the trans. It works pretty well.
Another blurry shot, but this is the fuel selector valve. It took a minute to plumb this and get it wired in.
There you have it! It took a little longer than I wanted it to, but it's together now. ....whew!
