I have a 1984 F150 and the fuel gauge only indicates fuel level when the tank is full. After just a few gallons are used it falls off to indicate empty. I cant find a replacement tank sending unit listed anywhere? Does anyone know if my truck has a tank sending unit or is the tank level detected by other means? Also a tip on where to find a new level sensor would be helpful. Thanks.
I have come across this problem many times at my work, and here is what I tell them. The sending unit in the tank has the equivelent of a variable resistor that the arm on the sending unit slides up and down on sending a reading to your gauge. What happens is the contacts on portions of the resistor wear out cuase portions of open circuits. Napa has a universal sending unit available that comes with a gauge.....{sorry the gauge in the dash won't work with it} If you go to your local Napa and tell them it's in their Balkamp Catalogue they should be able to find it.
Your last option, and in my opion the best.. Call Ford and see if it is available to order. Ford still has availability on sending units for some popular model, but not many. And always remember to replace your old gas tank strainer when dropping the tank.

I have some Ford nos senders; do you have the Ford Part # or any numbers from the sender itself? I have a couple of application part numbers for your truck from Mitchell Manual Parts Sheet.
