Planning on replacing the struts and shocks on the wifes 2005 Escape in the near future. What else should be replaced while I'm in there. Plan is to go with OEM parts.
I've done shocks/struts three times and have only done the actual shock. Guess he rubber isolator could be bad but other than that there isn't much else to go bad.
Take a good look at the sway bar link bushings. Unless they have been replaced with aftermarket, such as MOOG, they won't have grease fittings, and tend to get sloppy over time. When that happens, you get clunking sounds.
It might be easier to do them at the same time as you do the struts. Pretty certain you have to disconnect one end of the link from the strut, so you are only doing one more nut per side.
It would not hurt to check the bearing at the top of the strut for roughness. It bears the weight of the front half of the vehicle, and can, not will, get dry and rough if the lube has been forced out.

I replaced both sets of struts on my 2006 and 2008 escape and used the Monroe quick strut all new assembly it was plug and play and if you use the specials at Advance auto you can get the price way down and you are getting new springs, bearings and install is just 6 bolts just MHO
