ok i have gone thru most all the spark issues and no luck figuring out mine
78 300 I6 base
my harness fried and i replaced with the one from bronco graveyard with the help of my local mechanic.
switched out amp gauge for a light in the economy spot, added a ballast resistor according to old ford manual and the new diagram & new plug wires started fine ran ok.
installed new thermostat (found out wasn't running one)
replaced alt belt
ran better
changed thermostat for winter
re-tightened alt belt
ran for a week sat for a day wouldn't start,
have fuel starter makes 1 click noise
so i charged battery, replaced Ignition coil looked like weak spark but was there, cap and rotor seemed a little old, then whole distributor since gear looked warn and was stuck on. next was ignition module.
after all this still wont fire for so looked at first 3 plugs front to back is 1 black 2 more gray black 3 light gray then i drained my oil or should i say my 2stroke mix out of the pan and im stuck on ideas was thinking next thing maybe engine ground strap it looks like its pretty old i didnt notice tll i was pulling filter
Have you changed the spark control module . When you change them you have to match the color of the duraspark module cause I ran into that before . I am in the process of restoring a 86 ranger Stx extended cab 4x4
ok so i got spark finally no wi think i might have broken it
tested spark this morning went to start him up this after noon and bang
sounded like a gunshot under the hood seemed loud for a backfire and not from exhaust
im guessing i didn't get distributor in quite right ?
