Used '05 Escape
I'm getting ready to purchase an '05 Escape Limited with the Premium package. It has a 3.0L V6 24V with 136,348 miles. I am going to take a compression gauge with me to make sure the engine cylinders are within spec. What is the expected compression range on this model? I want to make sure it is mechanically sound. Body and interior looks great.
Also, there's claim to an aux tranny cooler on it so I'm hoping there won't be problems in that regard. The best I can do at this point is check the color of the fluid and make sure it isn't burnt or contain any metalic particles. Sometimes a smooth shift doesn't tell all.
Appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!
Will
I don't know the compression, but are you sure the owner is going to let you oil the intake to check the back cylinders or are you only going to do the front?
I got there late because of traffic and didn't get a chance to do the compression test or take it to a neighboring mechanic, which they would have let me do. Didn't want to take the trip again because it was 2.25 hrs. It looks mint, inside, out and under the hood. It does need a tuneup though. Wouldn't you know that when I got 30 miles up the road with it, the check engine light came on and the service light said "service emission system". I hope it's nothing serious.
