Found a solid one at a fair price. How do I make it sit and look more like an f100? Need to swap out the 8 lug for 5? Change out leaf springs?
Would like to end up with a lower (but not too low) truck on steelies and whitewalls.
Seems to me like you are going backwards... Got some pics? Why don't you look for a f100 instead. Why ruin a perfectly good f250 when you can find a f100 anywhere.lol Waste of time and money to convert a 250 to a f100. Just my opinion. Ive dumped enough cash into my stuff and don't wana see others make the same mistake. Where you located?
I've added extra springs front and rear to my '59 F350! But that's just me and a few others around here. You are in the majority for sure. Just have fun with whatever you decide on.
You might could find a F100 with decent running gear and lift the cab and box and swap the drive train in entirity! Not really that bad a job. Definately easier than trying to make a 250 into a 100.
You could just throw 1000 lbs. of something into the back end of the 250 and it would sit lower and ride more like a 100!

I did the same thing as you - was looking at a ton of F-100's, but then a 250 came up with very nice body, needed engine and undercarriage work.
Since it was not even safe to drive, I did the front end first - some sort of Mustang replacement (new, not used), which included power steering, disc brakes, and ended up being 5-lug. It also lowered it a bit - I need to update my pics on this site.
Future item will be replacing the rear-end, and guys at shop told me late 90's to early 00's Ford Explorer rear end will basically bolt right on - and would have disc in rear along with matching 5-lug.
Front end was pricey, as I don't have all the tools and know-how, I had to pay labor. Rear end I can do. I also have a sneaky suspicion that tranny will have to be changed when I do rear - it's currently a 4-speed with a 4.11 rear.
Anyway, I'm not sure exactly what makes a 250 a "250", but I suspect I'm slowly converting it to a 100, at least frame-wise. Engine is a 292, which I'll keep, other than that, dunno all the differences.
So - can I get 8 lug wheels that will look good with some baby moons and forget the whole conversion?
And maybe swap some leaf springs?
You can do practically anything you want if you're willing to put in the hours of fabricating and/or searching for items that will "look good" in your opinion.
Since it appears no one here has done what you're proposing, you will probably have to be a pioneer. Be sure to post a build thread.
Most folks who want an F100 like it for the short bed/looks. If you are comfy with the long bed look. Then not much reason to change axles an all. You can buy most any type of rim and cap/beauty rim treatment with an 8lug rim. Then like GB say you can add or subtract leafs to meet your needs.
I would suggest getting the slider inserts for between each leaf, it makes the ride noticeably smother.(one of the best changes I made) Still have the same capacity as originally.
