I have a 94, 3.0 with 110k on it and I noticed today that there was some oil looking fluid leeking from the front of the van. Upon further investigation it apperas to be the power steering pump was leeking. When I opend the cap it was bone dry, but the steering appeared to be working fine. I added fluid right away, and it contineus to leek and when I turn the wheel all the way to either side it sounds like a whinning and grinding is going on. Is there a easy solution to this or will I need to get a new pump installed and if so what is the approx. cost of this job from a garage. Thanks
Just replace mine this weekend. $46 for the pump (+$35 core) I went ahead and replaced both lines ($36-pressure and $18-return) while I was in there. I also purchased the pulley puller/installer ($26) always can use more tools!
I had a 200+ estimate from the shop (pump only).
Anyway...no more leaks.
Not sure, but I think I could have taken the PS pump out without having the rest of the front off -Radiator, fan, belt, etc.(I replaced water pump, hoses, etc while I had some time) Nice to have the working room though.
