A couple of things; this is a Y-block aftermarket intake, not a rare, factory MEL 430 piece. The two things do not compare. AFAIK, you can still get an offy tri-power intake, so while they may be scarce, they're not rare. Those rare carb tops appear to have recently been run through a glass bead cabinet and have a non-original, rough profile. Not good. Still a cool piece, but probably worth about half what he's asking, imho.
Some people give stuff away and others have no idea what their stuff is truly worth and assume it's worth more than it is.
I first saw this posted 4/6/2011! It has not dropped in price from $1000 in that time and is re listed every time it expires...
