Sorry to hear about your windshield...I guess you could look at it this way, it protected you., In aviation, many bird strikes
can be fatal to pilots...I've hit a few while crop dusting, and had a friend back east have one come through his windshield
and hit him in the head. If he hadn't been wearing his helmet, he'd have been knocked out and met a nastier ending.
As far as all the other challenges you're experiencing...most of us have been there at some point in our lives-this is where a
good outlook and positively focusing on the future will get you through it.
I love those Owls; they taste like chicken!!! Here folks seem to have more run in's with Bambi & Turkey's..
Hopefully some member near ya has a spare front glass.
unfortunately liability insurance only.... we have more owls per capita than any other county in the state of kansas i met a game warden that claimed so at least and neither him nor his colleagues know why.... i wish they would take my wifes cat next time he escapes....thanks for info i will probably buy yet another new windshield....
Always get comprehensive insurance it's cheap, I think I pay about $10 a year for my truck 60 and $18 for the 66. I've had two windshields on two different vehicles replaced and insurance covered it 100%

Don't know if the OD was available in 66 but a three speed over drive would be a 3 on the tree, the OD operated electrically via a kick down switch under the gas peddle, relay and a solenoid on the trans. There is also a manual cable on the dash to lock it in conventional or put it into OD.
i wonder what its value would be at? i think i can pick the truck up for around $500 and it has a better front clip than mine and a radiator core support that's not rusted out totally like mine.... if anyone knows what the code on the vin tag is for this trans i would appreciate it

I would grab it, the trans and related parts alone are worth that much..
that's what i figured plus about 85% of the chrome is good including the bed side chrome, chrome bumper (unfortunately grille is trashed) it has a sweep style gauge like mine but plastic is broke a couple places, all the appropriate badges and emblems, good doors and windows and guts, shame it has as many dings and dangs everywhere else otherwise it would be and a lot better shape than mine (could never replace her though kind of attached)
