Early '04 No Power While Cold

Early 2004 low power while cold. Thinking it's injector o rings or injectors. Little smoke until warm. FICM just under 48 volts while cold. ICP and IPR look good. Any ideas?

That's what Mine ended up being was Injector O-Rings

You have Fuel Delution ??

I had No Smoke

But ALL the Other Sticktion Symtoms with Fuel in Oil every couple weeks it would Make a qt or 2

It's not my truck so it's hard to say if it adds fuel. How can I test for dilution? Little smoke comes when it's very cold around 20 degrees. Your post is what made me think o rings first

I would check my Oil leval every few days

Every couple weeks it was High again after I had drained some Off the week before

I check so often I knew what was going on

yours sounds like a injector though


You can also send a Oil sample in for testing if you want

Just do a Bubble test Cold if you want

Works for SOme

Rev-X or Archoil

Be a good Idea to do the BLUE Fuel press spring upgrade if you haven't already

What specifically would be the failure in the injector if the power balance is almost completely flat? See o rings being a fix for 7.3l for similar problems.

The Spool valves are Stickey especialy with the cold oil

Or the Plunger is starting to get Jacked

So the HP oil doesnt seal with an o ring? If the o rings are bad it'll add fuel to the oil and there won't be enough fuel pressure until it warms up and the o ring seals?

Yes it Does seal with an Oring that is Installed in the Top of the Injector and held in with a Keeper

Exactly^^ was my senereo

A really Bad Oring may NEVER warm and Seal just depends on Severity of the Failure


Also in my case I don't remember much smoke there may have been a little smoke but Not much

Top image is the injector before I cleaned it compared to a clean one. Bottom image is after I cleaned the injector. The streaks look like fuel eating out the metal? Are these injectors salvageable?

P.S. That black gunk smelled strongly of fuel which makes me think I was on the right track with o rings.

Yea. I just took it off. Any recommendations for cheap decent injectors? Sub $200.
