I am really considering a manual swap from the C6 I have now. But I am curious as to which 4spd I should get- NP435? T18 or T19? I know some will say get a ZF, but they are hard to find around here and not cheap!
Also need to be educated on the bellhousing/flywheel parts. Thanks
BTW
1979 F350 S'Cab 460 2wd.
I have the np-435 and am quit happy with it I did a lot of research on and about my truck before I bought it and everything about the np-435 point to a pretty solid unit
If I was doing the swap I would go with the T-19 to get a useable first gear with syoncro's, also if your truck is used more for street driving than off road like mine the 6.32-1 first gear is pretty much un useable but the readily available 4.02-1 T-19 would be a nicer set up (IMHO). The T-19 and the T-18 use the same bellhousing, clutch and flywheel from what I have been told.
My truck is pretty much a mall cruiser and I admit, I use first gear in my np435 everytime I drive it as I drive a lot in traffic and it is helpful to just creep, though I'm sure a 4.xx first gear in the t19 would be just as helpful.
Thanks guys. I am off to the wrecking yard today to look for pedals and such. Now did the T19 only come in the diesels? And are the NP435 and T18/19 bellhousings different?

The t19 came behind 460's also, I'm not sure if np 435 takes the same bellhousing, just google t19 to np 435 swap
I changed mine old T18 for a T170D 4 spd, its come from truck 85 , that´s so nice 4 spd , complety sincro with overdrive. 4th , 1:85
And use the same fly wheel, clutch, pedals .
Are you talking about the SROD 4 speed? I had one in an '84. I think they're known to be a pretty weak gearbox, although I never had any trouble with it. If I was towing anything it was completely useless.
i´m taking about T170 tremec transmission it´s aplication is for trucks and i guess the srod is for vehicles like mustangs of some like that , with some torque rating below to 200 in the first shifts

SRODs were also installed in trucks. "T170" is just another name for 'em. In understand what guys don't like about 'em is the gear spacing btwn 2nd and 3rd and the fact that their not HD.
They seem to be OK for a 300 or 302 but generally discouraged for torquier drivetrains.
