stock boost

Howdy!
How much boost should we be able to get on a stock setup?
Not how much we could get up to with mods, but I mean a stock engine. How high it should go to?
I'm only getting up to 12, maybe 13, PSI. Isn't that low?

Thanks!

If I'm remembering correctly I think the stock max is 23psi, but I could be a bit off. Either way, you do seem low. Have you thought about making a boost leak detector?

Is your air filter dirty or clogged?

Air filter brand new.
I thought about the boost leak detector but didn't want to do it if 12-13 sounded right.

How do you get it up to the 20's anyways?
Just floor it and hope it gets up there before the blues sees you? Lol

I think most stock see about 17 psi. You have to have some mods usually to get above 20.

if your driving and you step in to it, you should get to around 17 to 20 lbs of boost real quick. you don't have to stay in it to get to it..

if your not getting to those numbers you need to do a leak test..
Also, check your turbo wheel..

I get a max of 15-16 (16, rarely) on my truck. I'm at 7000' elevation, if that matters. I have no boost leaks that I know of, and have tested extensively for them.

Mine all stock will easily get to 24 while towing 13,000 pounds up a mountain. But even on flat ground empty floored, most of the way through second gear it reaches 24psi and holds it through drive and overdrive. I've since install a Ford Severe Duty AIS and straight piped the exhaust and it still peaks around 24 psi. The only change I've noticed from from those mods are a slight drop in EGT's. 50-75 degrees.

Tyler you may have read my post a few days ago. I'm the one with no tuner in the truck hitting 23 psi boost. That's NOT towing and empty verified by two different gauges one mechanical and one full sweep electric. It's also not "bone stock" either.
About three years ago everyone said stock boost was 15-17. Now it seems like everyone is saying 17-19.

I guess it's time for a boost leak detector.
Should be warmer on saturday. I'll probably do it then.
Will post here with findings

Disconnect the red line from the wastegate and plug it on an intercooler boot. Then go do a WOT run and see where it gets. In a stock tune, you should ideally get around 23psi if there are no leaks. The truck will de-fuel at that point.

If it is not reaching that point, run a boost leak test using the method described above. Also, check the up-pipes for soot around the collector at the turbo.

Wouldn't I have to punch a hole through the boot? Isn't that what we wouldn't want since it would be a leak spot?

I think he meant to say plug the end of the red line by placing it over the intercooler clamp bolt that protrudes .

I'm not sure if I'm drunk or just dumb but I'm still not sure where to put the red line?
Any pics anywhere by any chance please?

They are saying to remove the red line and just plug it with a screw or golf tee or something handy under the hood like a bolt sticking out.
