Hello all. I need some help. I rebuilt my c6 trans on my 1972 f100. It all seemed to go well, but now that I got my truck running again I am having a problem. My truck does not want to shift right. I can manually shift in 1st and 2nd. But if I put it in drive it does not want to shift out of 1st. When I shift from second to drive it seems to want to go back into 1st. Speed may be a problem because I live in a stuffy neighborhood. My truck drivable but I have all the lights, hood windshield etc.. off. So I must be careful so I don't have the cops on my ***.
I thought it might be the modulator got a new one and it did not help. I think I know what the problem is I just want a second opinion. I lubed them all when I put the valve body back together, but when I finished it sat a while before I filled up the transmission with fluid. I think that one of the valves in the valve body may be stuck. What do ya ll think? Any other suggestions?
The line is not new. It had no oil in it before or after I replaced the modulator. I unhooked the line from both ends and blew air through it. I do get vacuum from the intake. It all seems to be good.
So you've got vacuum... okay. That was my problem with my C4 when it wouldn't go into third. And, just to establish bases here, you're sure it's full of tranny fluid? My tranny guy instructed me to put 3L in, run the engine, and every so often keep adding a liter until full. It should take around 9L.

You want him to fill it with sodapop?!
sorry, ignorant American joke
Lineman, have you tried any adjustment to the vacuum modulator? From your symptoms I would guess it needs to be backed out. There are also different vacuum rate modulators and different length pins behind the modulator that affect shifting.
The pin is there. I could not see any ring on the old modulator. The one I bought Has a black ring. Nothing changed when I changed modulators. I don't think that was the problem. I will try to back the screw out when I get a chance. I did try to adjust the old one. It did not change anything. I am sure it is full of trans fluid. I have been working on other projects lately. I was giving myself a break from my truck. Very frustrated. If adjusting it out does nothing I plan on dropping the valve body and checking for stuck valves. How muck vacuum do you need at the modulator for it to work properly. Might recheck vacuum line and see what kind of vacuum I get.
