I have the starter from the 226 cid that was in Blue. I don't know the condition or if it is the same. If you want, I'll verify it works and meet you in Spring City for breakfast.
I am with Ross, probably a ground problem. Have you jumpered the relay? Get any sparks, any noise?

Scrambles restaurant. It is west of the tracks about the middle of town, across from, and north of the Ace hardware. How about 09:00? Marcia and I will be in blue. You have my phone #. I'll go out and pull and check the starter. Go PM if we need to continue the discussion.

Starters can be different. I had a bad starter end plate in my '49 F-2 with the flat 6. I also have another parts truck in the back of the farm, I know it's a '48-50, but not sure, with a flat six. No problem, I'll pull the starter out of the parts truck and use the end plate. I pulled the starter and set both on the bench and the starters were different, one had a shorter case than the other by about a 1/4". Overall length was the same but the end plate on one had a thicker edge that made up the difference. I couldn't just swap parts. I ended up rebuilding the starter out of the parts truck. It bolted right into my truck and working today. Maybe one of the starters were an aftermarket unit, I don't know. With Ford you never know, they might have gotten a better price from one manufacturer closer to one of their plants or changed in mid year.

Ok, Joe, I pulled and bench tested the starter on 12 volts and it works. Does your starter bench test? Have you tried it?

Any chance the starter came apart while putting it in, and a brush came off the armature?

Good to hear Joe.

Hope it all goes well and you're back on the road soon.

Yea, I hope so too. Once I get it running and back together, I guess I'll be making a stop at the starter shop.
