Ok i know i have posted often ,near prolofically on here and i appologize but i find that this place is a wealth of knowledge that i am starving for. But let me start by saying electrical is my kryptonite . And running around in franken ford tonite a problem arose . I turned the head lights on ,they ran fine so did the truck for a bout a quarter mile then te lights started to flicker and if i let off the throttle frank dies it starts right up again but dies immediately if there is no throttle applied . This has just began happening to tonite i let it idke outside my aunts to let the heater kick in and nonproblem but after i tried to take off suddenly its not wanting to run. And it will die even without the lights on now. I have an idea or two but any help would be amazing when its running right franken ford i amazing and unstoppable its these odd things to slow her down but thank you in advance
Well, you might start with checking your battery. Does it have 13V? Is it old and dirty?
You can pull it out and get it tested at your local auto parts for free.
You probably got the original alternator that does not put out much juice to begin with, a tired battery and by running the heater fan and headlights you are maybe taking out more juice than your system can keep up with. (Just my guess without knowing other details).
The "no throttle applied" could mean your alternator does not provide enough juice to the battery at idle, your system voltage drops so low, it dies. This is my wild guess though...
You mention that the truck starts and subsequently dies with or without the headlights on at this point, so why do you suspect it to be an electrical problem? You can easily rule that out by checking the voltage across the battery posts with and without the truck running. I expect that you own and are willing to learn how to use a multimeter; if not, you're on your own.
Ah he said it started....so I doubt its a bad battery, more like a bad alternator. That's what I would ck first. After checking for a wire that might of just fell of something, miraculously.
