A couple weeks ago I had an o-ring tear and ended up hydrolocking my motor. Got that fixed. Had to hire a mechanic as the weather is crappy and I don't have an indoor shop large enough.
So I get the truck back but I notice that when I'm driving the Check engine light comes on then blinks off after 1-3 seconds. Then it'll do it again. But it only does it when I put a load on it, such as going up a hill. Check the codes when I stopped and it's a P1316.
So would it be a slightly loose plug at an injector or would it be an improperly connected harness at the cover?
Also the truck just pukes grayish smoke when I start it cold. Let it warm up for 5 minutes and it only smokes as normal. What could be your take on that?
You do need a serious code scanner. I've had a P1316 since I bought my truck back in may. The truck runs great, I've replaced valve gaskets, UVCH's, an Injector and even tried a new IDM. Nothing helped.
I got AE and after a quick buzz test, I see #8 is causing the issue. The #8 can always cause an issue so I'm not very concerned. I did a contribution test and didn't get any errors. I monitor my Perdels and they are all under 1 except #3&4 which max out at 1.9. So no issue there.
I get a little white smoke on start up but that clears easily and the truck idles fine, cold or hot.
There are several reasons my truck, and your truck for that matter might have the issue. Good thing is that $350 I spent on AE has told me more then my mechanic has. Plus I trust myself more then I trust anyone else.
See if there is a fellow FTE member around you who can run a few simple tests and quickly tell you the issue. Could be a moot point like my #8 or something bigger. Either way you can rest better.
Understandable. We know that my AIH relay is toast and I have the GPs working on a push button and not the relay
Moving on. Did a cylinder balance test and got a P0269 code. Cylinder 3 contribution fault.
Drove it after clearing codes w/o my Bullydog and it threw the P1316 code again. But it's only a microsecond and the SES light is off. Get in the throttle again and the SES light flashes on and then off in less than a second. No performance issues that are noticeable.
When you run an injector buzz test, you will see if any IDM codes exist. You need to do this test with cold injectors. It will buzz all injectors followed by single 1-8. Once complete you will get the stored IDM codes.
Any chance he bent a rod or a push rod when he hydrolocked the motor? That would cause perdels to be off wouldn't it? Could that cause an intermittent CEL?
I'm making the mechanic that had it last week to look at the connections to see if he didn't connect them properly and I put in a call to the folks that sold me the injectors.

Maybe. But I didn't keep cranking. As soon as I flipped the key and the motor wouldn't turn I stopped trying.
Is that something that you can tell by looking when the valve covers are off?
Only code I got was a P1271 Cylinder 1 High to low open
Didn't say anything about the P1316 issue
The P1271 IS the P1316 issue.Could be you have an injector solinoid going south. Can you ohm test the injectors? Look at GB remanufacturing website for all the info you need on doing this.
