oil capacity
When I change my oil, I put in more than 6 quarts, usually near 6.5 - That brings the oil level right to the FULL mark.
When you check it after it's been running, it's down almost 1/2 quart, sometimes more if I was doing high RPM's...
With the overhead cams, there is a lot of oil in the head and it takes almost overnight for it all to drain down and then the dipstick shows FULL again.
The point Ford is trying to make is that if you check the oil at the GAS station, and it's above the LOW mark, DO NOT ADD OIL because you are really overfilling the engine.
I check my oil in the morning, and it's always at the FULL mark. IF I check it after driving, it's down 1/2 way...

When I change my oil and replace with 6 quarts, every time I check it, whether first thing in the am, or when at the gas station, it always reads the 1/2 way full mark.
I now wonder if you put in 6.5, that it is pushing extra oil up in the heads and holding it, where 6 quart levels does not do that? I guess we will really never know this.
Krewat, I agree 100% with you. What still doesn't make any sense is why Ford did not advise that a complete oil change takes 6.5 quarts. They could have explained in a single sentence that when checking oil level, assure it is checked when drained for X hours.

My putting in 6.5 quarts may be the cause of the blue puff of smoke I sometimes get. Move the truck 10 feet one day, start the next morning, POOF! Blue smoke for a second... then, nothing.
No oil usage between 3000 mile oil changes, NONE...
It's time to change it again, so I'll put in 6 qts this time and see if I EVER get the blue puff.
