Torque is an app that, when combined with a Bluetooth OBD2 "dongle" transmitter, allows one to view and log ANY of the parameters that the vehicle's computer sees.
For example (and this is a short list of total available parameters): speed, rpm, engine coolant temp, transmission coolant temp, engine load, throttle position, oxygen sensor voltages, fuel trims, etc. etc.
It's an AWESOME diagnostic tool. $5 for the app, and $25 for the bluetooth transmitter -- best $30 I've spent in a long time.
Hey, I am glad to see that someone else is running the torque app as well!! I am running it on my 08 F 350 V10 and I would LOVE to compare a few numbers. My truck is actually having some real problems right now, and maybe this could help me figure out what is going on. I have a DTC P0340 code for the camshaft position sensor. here is a start on a few numbers (because there are A LOT!!)
Absolute throttle position B: 19.6% (foot off the gas) foot to the floor goes to about 79%
Air Fuel Ratio (commanded) 13.24:1
Air fuel Ratio (measured) no data (are you getting this info?
Evap System Vapor Pressure: -8.5 Pa
Fuel Pressure: (no data recieved)
Fuel Rail Pressure (no data recieved)
Fuel Rail Pressure (relative to manifold Vacuum): 279 kPa engine off key on, 350kPa engine running
Timing advance: 10 degrees (key on, engine off)
Voltage (control module): 11.57V
I will report a bunch more stats once I can get my engine running properly. Right now it will start rough, and not rev up over 2000rpm even with full throttle. let me know how your numbers compare, and I will post some more once I get this truck figured out
can you post a pic of the dongle and a pic of the app in action. I would love a way to monitor trans temps while towing without adding a ugly gauge to the truck.
I tried a couple of those cheap adapters but they wouldn't work with the Ford protocol, it's hit and miss. I ended up getting one of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/PLX-Devices-Kiwi-Bluetooth-Wireless-Trip-Computer-OBDII-Scanner-Auto-Car-Tools-/171205607993?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item27dca64239
It has worked great so far with the Torque app on my Acer Iconia (also worked great on my LG Thrill before I dumped my overpriced AT&T plan) I've used it on all three of my vehicles so far for diagnostic purposes. It even allowed me to track down a 2 minute transmission “repair” on my wife's Chrysler so I wouldn't have to pay the $100 warranty deductible.
It can be a bit temperamental sometimes when trying to link to my tablet, but usually works on the second or third attempt and remains linked without issues. If could just get transmission temperature PIDS on the 350 I would be even happier. (And before some asks, yes my '99 V10 is OBDII)
From the research I've done I'm pretty sure you can since the ScanGauge II can have additional PIDS programmed if they aren't included. I was very close to buying one myself (and still might). The one downside is that you can only have 4 parameters at a time displayed on the SGII. Whereas with the Torque app you can have as many as your screen size will allow. Which for me is actually too many as I've been using with a 10" tablet. The thing I do like about the SG is that there is no BT tethering, you just get in the truck and go and it works without any setup effort and can be left installed permanently.
