Post EFI Conversion

I have a 1992 F-350 4x4 with the 5.8L It came with a C6 auto but I have converted it to a 1988 5 speed.
My issue is the fuel injection keeps causing me small problems and I would like to know if anyone has successfully upgraded this air density system to the 1996-97 Mass Air type system or any other OBDII type system.

Since you have a 5 spd behind that Windsor you can put a mustang A9L in it and do the wiring harness mods to it and it will be fine..

But..

You shouldn't have issues with a non modded truck and factory injection.. My truck has a built 302 and the ecu doesn't have issues

future plans

Are you saying I could use the Mass air system from a 5.0 mustang?
I would like to change the power plant in the future but keep the fuel injection. my plans are to replace the stock windsor with a stroked 396 or 408 with ported heads and intake and a mild cam. looking for a little more power.
I also like the increased ability to read fault codes of the mass air system

You will read same amount of codes from the A9L ecu as the speed density computer..

Ford also made MAF OBDI systems. If memory serves they were primarily for California emissions.

You need the computer for a truck with a manual transmission. The computer you have now is looking for signals from the electronic automatic that is now mia

Given your goals for a stroker down the road a Mustang MAF setup is the way to go(I have that setup in my truck), but you need to start with a good running EFI system before converting or you could spend weeks chasing your tail trying to figure out if you made wiring mistakes or some of the new parts are bad or if a preexisting problem is why the motor doesn't run right.
To that end go get an Equus 3145 code reader and then post up the codes you get from the PCM and I'm sure we can help sort things out.

Yes, you can. I converted a carbureted 351 in a '69 Mustang Mach I to EFI, used the '93 Cobra PCM (computer) which was calibrated for 24lb/hr injectors instead of 19 (which were standard in Mustang 5.0L HOs. The damn thing ran like a champ! impish

model and years?

First let me say thanks to everyone who has helped.
What year and model should I look for. Will any others work? F series, T-bird, Crown Vic or Cougar?
