I have a 94 Aerostar 3.0L with 102,000 miles. Just had it tuned up and transmission fluid & filter changed. I had these done in my quest to resolve what appears to be the torque converter losing lock-up after being out on the highway for about 40 miles. It goes in and out of lock-up every minute or two. I have read elsewhere on this site that it could be the throttle position sensor, EEC module, a solenoid or even the brake switch (by the way, if I barely touch the brake pedal, the TC unlocks). Any help would be appreciated - I can't afford to pay a shop to "experiment" until they get it right.
Thanks!
I had posted about a similar problem in the Aerostar forum and Mikeman responded thusly:
"I've never had this happen, but a couple things that affect OD/lockup and cruise control come to mind. The brake on/off (BOO) switch will unlock the torque converter and will also turn off the cruise when the brake pedal is pressed. Throttle position is used in 3-4 shift and torque converter lockup scheduling. Check both of these out and see if they're bad."
