I'm inching closer to getting my dent where I can get it inspected and road legal. I need to finish up a leaky exhaust and fix the headlights. I decided on these Hella units from Summit. I probably could have bought cheaper or went a different route but I've heard good things about these and they can easily be upgraded to a more powerful 'offroad' H4 type of bulb if that becomes necessary. Headlamps made in Germany, copper header gaskets made in China.
I had a set of those on my 86 F250 and I loved them. I had the bulbs with legal wattage low beam and the the not so legal wattage high beam. Really made a difference. I had them in that truck for 120k miles and I found that after that time the glass face had a frosted look to them (they still worked great though). Maybe there is a clear mylar that could be put on the face to help avoid the erosion?
I had a pair of those in my 79 for 14 years they worked great. The only reason I threw house brand cheapies in recently was due to the silver spray backing in the housings essentially being non existent.
Again, excellent purchase you'll be happy. I never did a wiring upgrade and they worked well, can't imagine what they would do with better wiring.
Thanks for sharing, now I'm going to get another pair.
Conversion is well worth the money. If you upgrade to the higher wattage bulbs, it would probably be worth it to upgrade the plug.
As long as you aim your lights correctly, you should be able to pass the higher wattage bulbs without any problems. I ran 85/105w bulbs for almost a year in my old bricknose. Never got any crap from anyone
