Anyone know where I can find the chrome bumper moldings for an 88 Shorty? I ordered the new bumpers, but having a problem finding the moldings anywhere.... Does anyone have experience with a "universal" molding that works and looks like factory?
I found a rear bumper molding on Ebay a few years back that turned out to be for the "shorty" version. Alas, I have the extended version. There is only one strip but appears to be OEM. If interested send me a PM to discuss.
the bumper "molding" is a strip of self-sticking flexible chrome decorative molding that comes in a roll enough for one bumper and half the other, you can find it at AutoZone, get the 1/4" wide strips, you will need two packages, $15. each.
make sure you clean the bumper "channel" with alcohol (not whiskey or tequila, save that for when you finish), rubbing alcohol will be fine.
then start applying it slowly. You will need to make some angle cuts at he ends. Otherwise it's a piece of cake.
Well... as it turns out.. the bumper covers came.. and they came WITH the moldings!! I specifically asked them if they came with them.. and the answer was a resounding NO.. but surprise.. they both have the moldings in the packaging!! Score!!
