As some of you know last weekend I picked up a 78 SB 2wd with a 302 Rusted in all the usual places floors, wheel wells etc. i got a decent deal at $600 honestly wasnt sure if i was gonna keep or sell it as a quick flip to finace my 79 f250. The truck leaked oil and drove all over the road but seems to run ok. So as I decided instead of me tearing into right away I would pay my local mechanic to fine tooth it so I can decide what to do.
Here is his list
Intake manifold leaks
Valve covers leak
Exhaust leak
Wheel bearings
Front calipers
Front pads
Front rotors
Alignment
Gearbox leak
Rear leaks
Rear wheel seals leak
2 rear tires
So I'm stuck at a crossroad here should I fix this truck myself and pray that I'm only in this deep. Second if i was to fix the intake should I grab a 4 barrel aftermarket one and a carb or just fix the stock one
All depends on how busy you are, and how busy you want or have time to be, and what you local mechanic charges. Paying him to do it will cut into your pocket profit.
The repair list is not that bad, if you are going to fix and flip do not put new intake and carb money onto it IMO. Put a tune up kit on it (plugs, wires, rotor cap and bug).
You bough it to flip it right? Then get to flippin.....lol
I think carb kits are pretty cheap compared to a new carb so is hi that route. Do as much work yourself or with the help of a buddy and you'll have a driver that you can keep or flip for more mulla.
Sometimes even a new carb will need tweaking to make run right so that's more time and money to consider.
went the cheap way bought the parts and decided to fix it all myself this way if i wanna keep it its ready to go if i wanna flip it i know i can still make a few hundred and feel that i sold someone a decent truck without and headaches plus when your best friend owns 4 NAPA's you get parts at cost you just cant beat it
