I will be flushing my coolant tomorrow. Everything I've read says to use 4 gallons. Is this all that is required or will it hurt anything if I use 5 gallons. I will be using Rotella Ultra ELC. I had to purchase a case (6 gallons) and thought I use 5 and save one gallon for future top offs if needed.
If you follow the procedure as outlined by Gooch, you only need 4 gallons. Save the other 2 for what ever or sell them. You want to aim for a 50/50 mix, and by adding 4 gallons of concentrate you will get just about that mixture because some water from the flush stays in the block.
I personally keep a bottle of 50/50 premix for top offs, that way I don't get the ratio all out of whack. Not sure if that's correct, but makes good enough sense to me.
I did the coolant flush about a year ago and followed it to the t and couldn't be happier with the end result and i also mixed a few bottles and kept one on the truck and one at home.
