I am getting going on my 53 project... I am planning on putting the Mustang II front end on it but, When do I box the frame?
Should I put the Mus. II front end in first and then Box or, Box and then put the front end on?
Also, I haven't purchased the front end as of yet. I have been told by one guy to not buy the weld in kit. I haven't seen a bolt in kit and don't know if they are even available. *** Just looking for a little advise ***
Any good MII kit will come with the appropriate boxing plates for the front rail section. If you use those as instructed you'll be fine. The do go in prior to the installation of the crossmember. Weld in kits are better than bolt in, imho, as long as you or someone you know has the necessary skills to install one correctly. If not, the bolt in kit from Chassis Engineering is an excellent alternative.
Thank You!!!Thank You!!!Thank You!!!
This is perfect!!! Reading material!!!
I do have a couple friends that are "Certified Welders" and both said they would have no problem doing the welding. I was told to get the info on when and how things should be done.
Thanks again!!!
Speedway motors sell the boxing plates cut to fit for the front frame rails. I welded mine in as well and IMHO is better than bolting. Speedway's latest catalogue has a bolt in kit as well. It might be the TCI unit they are distributing. My 2cts
I did take a look at Speedway Motors and they seemed like a good deal but I didn't see all I needed to buy.
I'd like to stay under $1700 if possible.... Please Help!!
Just my 2c worth , but stay away from Helix products .
They have numerous quality issues , and internet searches will give you some idea .
Go for a quality kit , or my choice would be jag f/end .
good luck putting in a MII style IFS worth having for under 1700.00! There are a lot of hidden costs that are not part of any kit that will bring the total to closer to 3000. - 3500.00. If you are on a tight budget then there are far better choices than an MII. If you must have an IFS (reason???) then the Jag would give you a better IFS at 1/2 the cost, and the OEM beam axle/leaf spring style suspension can be upgraded to equal almost any IFS for highway driving at 1/3 the cost, and 25% the time and labor, and absolutely no welding necessary.
I'm just talking about just the IFS kit. I know it still have steering linkage and break hoses and other things like that to make it work. But I would like to keep the kit itself under $1700. NowI see eBay has a few choices under that price I am just wondering if they are worth the money or not.

The second and third you show are both Helix. From what I saw at shows and have heard on the board avoid these. I don't know about the fist one. I know it's a little more than you want to spend but I would use the one below. Does not use T slots to adjust camber, includes boxing plates, sway bar and stainless brake hoses.
Unless it is a major brand unit (besides Helix) from an authorized dealer I would avoid the low priced Ebay units, they are all Helix or other Chinese clones (Helix is a CC).
I've done a little homework on the Helix IFS. WOW I can't believe that they are even in business anymore.. ? Has anyone had a good experience with this setup/company? I think I may save up for a couple more months and get a $2500 budget for the IFS.
