Man you weren't kidding that is a hell of a Long Block..... actually that engine Looks Good... appears in good shape. Have you been driving this engine at all or has it been sitting ????
Got the power steering box and master cylinder off today. Unhooked a few brake lines etc.
I've almost got the steering box ready to ship off to redhead for the group buy later this month. I just need to get that pitman arm off. I haven't tried yet mainly because I don't have anything that will fit that nut. Looks like an excuse to buy more tools to me! Any advise on what I am about to encounter getting that thing off is appreciated.
So just in case you guys were curious about the "other" project here it is. My wife found this little tool chest at a flea market and wanted to use it as a nightstand for my youngest boy (pictured in this thread previously). So to match his Harley Davidson themed bed room I painted it orange. It turned out pretty good I think.
Very Nice work on the Harley Nightstand now you need to add a few stickers of Harley Davidson to it and it will look really Sweet.... Sorry !!! I have no advice on how to remove your Pittman Arm off, Hopefully someone will know soon for you & Help out. I have never removed one but it appears not to complicated from the picture you posted, I assume take nut off and everything their after. Just remember or take pictures on how to put it back together unless you are gonna have it rebuilt and maybe they can tell you......
To answer your question about how long it has been sitting. I got the truck when I was 15. My dad and I rebuilt that six in the spring before I turned 16. I drove the truck for a year back and forth to high school and out on the town typical teen ager stuff. I got a 97 ranger and only drove the Old Ford occasionally after that. Went to college got married had kids yada yada yada moved back to my home town about 9 years later to a place where I had enough room to keep it myself instead of leaving it at my parents house. With the intention of working on it I drove it home from their house and it ended up just sitting in the yard/ edge of the woods for almost 6 years. That brings us to about a year and a half ago when we were getting ready to move back out of town. Determined to take it with me I winched it up the hill and began trying to get it running again. I did but it was short lived as I was plagued by bad gas and a rusty fuel tank. So, on the trailer it went and back to my parents house it went. I made several weekend trips back there after we moved trying to get the Old Ford road worthy again. After a new fuel tank, 3 turn signal sockets, carburetor rebuild, fuel filter, 2 battery cables, 4 craigslist tires, turn signal switch, a tag, and insurance I had it back on the road. I drove it 87 miles to the new place at night with no interior lights. I did a little work here and there while we lived in the rental house for a year and have started repairs in earnest since we bought the new house in July 2013. The truck has ~133k miles on it now 97k of which can be attributed to my granddaddy. Ah good times!
This might seem unorthodox, when I run in to a large nut that I dont have the socket, wither tractors or whatever,I have a couple diffrent size old rigid pipe wrenches,,,that with a long pipe extention goes along way many times in the past and ,,,,,dont bogger the nut up though
