Ok I want to coat my frame. I desire the coating to be rust proofing, easy to clean, scratch and chip proof, and as attractive as possible. What do you guys suggest? I have done a search and didn’t find any answers.
try devo marine coating. it's a 2 part epoxy, that the local power utility uses in all thier water power stations, in above and below water areas, and inside the turbines. it's tuff stuff.
The search function seems to have a problem with older threads sometimes. Look at the dates of the hits... Make sure you have the date function set properly also.
Epoxy is good. You should be able to get 2 part epoxy at the local Home Box store also.
NO Rhino Lining. POR-15. That is all there is to it. Listen to some of the senior people. They know what they are talking about. It may be a little too much work for some but well worth the effort.
I just painted my frame with por 15. The directions say you can paint over rust, as long as you scrape off most of it. Anyway, after a few days i noticed little speckles of rust coming through, and now 2 weeks later its starting to form rust over the top. I was pissed to say the least. A lot of wasted time and energy.
The best way to really protect your frame would be to strip it down, acid dip it, and powder coat it. Almost no one can afford to do that though.
I am about to do the same to my bronc... I have heard lots of good things about POR-15. When I checked out there website they have a whole product line that all supposed to work together. So instead of just painting over the rust there is like 2 or 3 step treatment to get the best results. Also, has anyone heard of "CHASSIS SAVER" I thinks its similar to POR-15.
But something else interested me grately too... On the TV I was watching "Trucks" one weekend on their project Crazyhorse they used something called Line-X that seems to be the ultimate in paint. They even had an educational video on it like how the military used the paint to bomb proof building (the paint actually held the meterials together to a much higher force). They like droped 2 cinder blocks from many stories up... the plain one smashed into a pile of dust while the Line-X coated one actually bounced and didnt even chip. It impressed me but I dont know know anything more about it, anyone heard or used it?
$500??? Wow, you are paying way too much, here in wisconsin I can get a frame sandblasted and primed for $150. Then you can go in and put anything on it yourself.
