Best Battery

Just curious what everyone's opinion is on the best battery for these trucks? I currently have duralast gold. They just started acting up so it's time for a new pair ....

Use the search function in this section. There are many threads on this topic. Many prefer the Costco brand compared to price.

Yeah it looks like for price most prefer the Costco and for warranty. Die hard seems to be the preferred for performance though .... ie how fast it will spin over. Sound about right?

I've had my e99 since new and I've had the best luck with the Interstate batteries with 1000cca mega. I even drained them complete three times trying to get home and they still lasted six year plus. What ever you get, get the most cranking amps you can find. Don't go short on this period.

It depends on your definition of 'best'. For me, it's all about value and quality. I have just about 5 years on my 850cca Costco batteries which I paid $150 for the pair. They're still load testing strong and I'll buy these again when the time comes. (A great thing about Costco goods is the high rate of turnover. Date of manufacture on my batteries were the month before I bought them)

Battery Review, Walmart Everstart Maxx 65N; 850 CCA, 1000 CA (manufactured by Johnson Controls)

WAL MART (battery is not listed in their web site)

It is mfg. by Johnson Controls & produces this EXACT SAME battery (CCA, etc.) for many auto makers and retailers under different product names such as:
Motorcraft silver BXT-65-850; ~$100.00 to $120.00 Plus $104.95 + tax, etc. at your local friendly Ford dealer
Sears Die Hard Gold 33065 $105. +
Auto Zone (Duralast Gold)
Eveready
Everstart
Interstate Mega-Tron Plus $104.95 + tax, etc.
Toyota (TrueStart)
Mitsubishi (Diamond Car Care)
Mazda
Advance Auto (Autocraft Titanium)
Costco (Kirkland Signature)
Pep Boys (ProStart & Energizer)
btw, Johnson also mfg. Optima brand

WAL MART - excellent price $61.00 w/ 7% sales tax and free installation. The warranty is 3yr free and 108 month pro-rata
CCA: 875 amps @ 0 degree F/ CA = 1090 amps @ 32 F; Reserve capacity: 165 mins

compare CCA etc to Optima YellowTop
CCA = 500 amps @ 0 degree F/ CA = 625 amps at 32 F; Reserve capacity: 70 minutes

Well my Wal-Mart 65n 850 wasn't $61.00. But I went with Wal-Mart as we travel a lot and there are Wal-Marts everywhere. IIRC the 65n 850s are $104.00ish.

I run XS Power in my OBS, but that is a very expensive option. They are incredible batteries, by far the most powerful batteries I've ever run. I've had Motorcraft, Interstate, Optima, and Everstart. XS Power has dealt with the demands I throw at my electrical system better than anything else has.

If I didn't want to drop the coin on XS Power though, I would go with Die Hard Platinum or Motorcraft IMO.

My SD currently has Everstart batteries that are about 2 1/2 years old. They aren't too terribly strong and turn the truck over a little weaker than I like. I'll probably rob the XS Power batteries out of my OBS and put them in the SD before the Everstarts have a chance to leave me stranded.

Just because different batteries are made by Johnson Controls at the same factory, doesn't necessarily mean they are all of equal quality.

My personal opinion is, be more concerned with the condition of your alternator, and if you have one of those "lifetime" rebuilt alternators, upgrade to something better.

I used to go through a set of batteries every year. Each time my "lifetime" alternator failed, one battery would go shortly after. The first battery failure I ran into a NAPA corporate store vs. franchise where they wouldn't honor the battery warranty, so I switched to Autozoo where they look it up by phone number with no questions.

That worked for a few years until they said the batteries (gold tops) had no warranty because they had already been traded in. Made no difference they were only 10 months old and couldn't start the truck anymore.

It's been a year since I upgraded the alternator and switched batteries to a new brand. Knock on wood things are still working well. I guess I'll have to wait and see.

Sorry Guys,

I copied and pasted this from an old thread, I should have stated that.

I just wanted to show that Johnson controls makes most of the private label batteries.

I think the one I bought a few weeks ago was 106.00
