Hellow All,
My 2011 F350 - 6.7 has developed this KRAZY thump, snap noise under the hood, loud enough to be heard inside the cab, and I cannot find out what the heck it is. It is not directly connected to the motor, you can rev it and the noise does not change. the thump is like, every few seconds or so, especially when the motor is cold. I am afraid this is a 2000 dollar noise and the truck is out of warranty. Has any body else had a similar noise
Thanx for the HELP
Do not have any way to record a vid of the truck, but the noise seems like it is coming from the right side. The heater and AC work fine and the truck has same power. Is there some kinda overpressure thing that opens up if the regen cycle is not completed and the particulate filter is clogged? Just guessing here, engine sounds do not change when the thump is happening. Belts and tensioner seem OK, thump shure sounds mechanical. HOPE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS NOISE, HATE GOING INTO "UNCHARTED SPACE" AND VISITING A DEALER! MAY THE FORD GODS HAVE PITY ON ME!
If it doesn't change with engine RPM it's not likely related to your engine or accessory drive. Does it happen when idling or driving down the road? Or both?
Noise happens mostly when the engine is cold but hear it (somewhat less) with the engine hot. Hear it mostly when idling but do not think it makes a difference. Guess that is why I thought it may be connected to the emissions systems. Not a rod or piston, I know that noise. Not a main, I know that noise too. It is a snap thump every few seconds, kinda irregularly. It got warm here yesterday, in the 60's and the noise kinda went away. Was much louder when it was 30's out. When I take it to the dealer, I will make a point of telling everybody what they found. thanks for the replies! Stay tuned for an update, if someone else has experienced this please let me know. Wierd, the truck runs great otherwise.
No blood or guts dripping from the bottom of the truck, antifreeze some times, but that is a whole nuther story!!!! Yea, thought it may have been the clutch fan or what ever this truck has. but the thump does not change with the engine????? May the ford gods have mercy on me!
