gear ratios

hi everyone, i have a 79 f250 4x4, its got a 351w i havent decided on a transmission yet but ive got it down to the c6 and the 5speed overdrive, i want to run 38in superswampers, but i still want lots of proformance, what gear ratios would i want to run to make this setup go like hell

Gear ratios are going to depend on the transmission because you have chosen a transmission with and without OD and that's a major factor.

well id kinda like to use the c6 automatic, but if im going to need an overdrive tranny to make this setup powerfull and reletivly highway friendly ill use the 5 speed, what would you do?

Depends how much you ride on the highway. The 5 speed will be much much better for street friendlyness/highway riding. It'll allow you to use a lower gear (numerically higher) and still not be spinning 3 grand on the highway. With the C6 and no overdrive, you'll have to use a higher gear and you won't have as much of the power. Now, in essence we're really talking about the equivalence of 15-20hp at most.

well ive decided to go with the 5 speed overdrive, what gears would do you sugust with that, also does anyone know of a good place to buy the ring and pinion set?

What 5 speed are you talking about? The zf 5 speed? What are you gonna do with the truck?

Yes we need to know what transmission you're going to be using because of the OD gear ratio. Also, we need to know what you plan on doing with the truck, lots of highway driving?
