Question Windshield trim questions, mostly.

I've got a 1990 F150 Lariat, 2WD longbed, Auto, almost 64K miles.

I've got the surface rust off it, and I'm getting ready to repaint it. There is a little surface rust underneath the windshield trim. Questions:

1. How to remove the chrome windshield trim?

2. Can I safely leave it off for a while (while cleaning up the rust, prime, paint, misc trips) and drive the truck?

3. Is there an alternative to putting the old chrome trim back on? A black vinyl or something dull, boring, cheap and long-lasting would suit me fine.

Also, if anyone could use the chrome wheel trim, it's free for pickup in the N. Raleigh, NC area, (shipping not free, but at cost), which is in good shape, with a couple of extra holes in it from a prior running board set that is no longer there.

Finally, I plan to use a paint on bed-liner. Any recommendations? I used Herculiner before on another project, it seemed to get goo-ey when in the hot sun, which I would prefer to avoid again.

Thanks!
